System Requirements
for your Cetisoft Reader:
- Any 386 or better, Pentium 2, 3, 4, etc.
AMD's work well too.) Any computer running Windows 95 or better (See FAQ #1
if running a version of Windows older than Windows 2000)
- A sound card
- Speakers
Using the Cetisoft
Reader
- Copy text to your Windows clipboard. (To do
this, simply place the cursor where you wish to start copying.
Hold down the LEFT mouse button and, while continuing to hold down the
left mouse button, move the cursor to the end of the text you wish to
copy and then release the left mouse button. The text you moved
over will now be highlighted.
- RIGHT click anywhere in the highlighted text and
choose COPY from the drop-down menu. (Note: instead of right clicking, you
can also use the CTRL-C key combination which does the same thing
(COPY)).
- Click the Reader Icon on your desktop. The
Reader will activate, read the copied text to you and then end. When
not in use, the Cetisoft Reader uses no Windows resources.
Before you look for answers to your questions, we
recommend that if the Cetisoft Reader was successfully installed you right-click
on the Reader while it is reading and then select Advanced Character
Options. Here you can explore various options (reading speed and
text display) available to
you. If you make any changes to these settings, be sure to click Apply.
Note that any changes you make will remain in effect until you change them
again.
FAQ's
- I installed the Cetisoft Readers but there are
no desktop icons to run ithem. Due to the way your Windows operating system
is configured, the Reader
installation program was not able to add icons to your
desktop. There is a simple fix for this. Go to the directory
where the program was installed (C:\Program Files\Cetisoft. In
that folder you will find icons with the letters CETI and either the
letters A (American English), B (British English), or S (Spanish
Language) - CETI_A.exe, CETI_B.exe or CETI_S.exe. Right click on any of these icons and choose
Make shortcut from the drop-down menu. The new shortcut icon
will appear at the end of the file list in your Cetisoft folder.
Either drag or copy the shortcut icon to your desk top.
- I installed either the British and Spanish
Cetisoft Readers but they don't speak. In order for these
versions to work, you must restart your computer to integrate the new
text-to-speech engines into your system. If that doesn't help,
right click on the Reader while it is reading and then click Advanced
Character Options. Check the box that says Play Spoken Audio
and then click Apply.
- The Cetisoft Reader speaks too slowly (or too
quickly). The Reader speed is adjustable. To adjust the
reading speed, right click on the Reader while it is speaking and then
select Advanced Character Options from the menu. Move the
slider left to slow down the Reader or right to speed it up.
Then click Apply (at the bottom of the menu). Note that the
speed change will not take affect until the Reader completes reading the
sentence it is currently reading. Note also that adjusting the
speed will not produce a Mickey Mouse effect. Altering the
speed will not change the pitch of the voice.
- How do I turn on/off the text display of what is
being read? Right click the Reader while it is reading and
either check or uncheck the Display spoken output in word balloon
using: box. If you check the box, (and select the A Single
font for all characters radio button) then you can select the font,
font size, and font color that is displayed. If you make any
changes, be sure to click Apply when done.
- How do I make the Reader shut up? To
stop the Reader in mid-read right click the Reader and then click
Close on the menu.
- What about the voice recognition tab on the
Advanced Character Options Menu? Ignore it. It is not
functional for this application.
- The Reader won't read PDF files.
How come? PDF files are not conventional text files.
They are actually graphics. If you have to read PDF files, you
must install either Adobe Acrobat (the full program, not Acrobat Reader)
or one of the other programs capable of editing PDF files.
- For versions of Windows prior to Windows 2000,
XP, and Vista: See FAQ #1.
- Why does the Reader say "inch" when the word
is "in."? The Reader is not perfect. If it encounters
the word in followed by a period at the end of a sentence, the
program interprets it as the abbreviation for the word inch. The Reader has been programmed to
understand many abbreviations. Unfortunately, it doesn't do that well
with contractions - sorry about that.
Suggestions
- Make your Cetisoft Reader available for use no
matter what program is currently running. Drag or copy
your Cetisoft Reader desktop shortcut icon to either your Microsoft
Office toolbar (if you have one) or to your Quick Launch toolbar (which
is located to the immediate right of your Start button). Note that
if your Quick Launch toolbar is not displayed, right click anywhere on
an empty space in the blue bar at the bottom of your screen, click
Toolbars, and then click Quick Launch. After you move
the Reader icon to this bar you can activate the Reader with a single
click without having to minimize your current applications to get to
your desktop icon.
- Writing scripts for your Reader. No,
not programming. You can write a text file that you want your
Reader to read and (for outward appearances) have a conversation with
the reader. If you insert \pau=5000\ in your text, the
Reader will 5 seconds (Likewise \pau=11000\ would cause the Reader to
pause for 11 seconds. You can also create a pause by using a
series of periods (. . . . . . .). If you want to add emphasis to
a specific word add \emp\ directly in front of a word (do not put
a space between this command and the word and be sure to include the
backslashes (\) as indicated).
